First, re: my theories from the end of the fall set of episodes:
- I was quite sure Alex was a set-up. Turns out, not so much. Now I still think this isn't so feasible, considering she was captured by the Others as a baby, not a 10 year old. So her alliance and belief system would be according to what they had taught her. But, maybe she remembers her mom or something, so okay.
- I was also certain the fish biscuits were laced (with some kind of hyper fertility drug). This one I'm thinking is even more plausible considering what we learned about Juliet's work off of the island.
Onwards:
- Good flashback. Not at all annoying and I didn't feel as though it got in the way of the (excellent) island action. If this is what all flashbacks were like (i.e. about an interesting character, revealing things that add to both their development & island mythology, and most of all - brief!) I wouldn't be bitching about them.
- Great action, with Kate and Sawyer running around getting shot at, Ben waking up (super creepily) on the operating table, Jack making decisions, etc.
- The secondary characters are totally not necessary. I didn't even miss Locke.
- Randomly, I still miss Boone. And sometimes Shannon.
- "God loves Jacob" ... good for him! Could Jacob be Ben's father since Ben was born on the island? It might explain why Ben has a fairly powerful position amongst the Others. Or perhaps he just "creeped" his way into it.
- So ever since the sky turned purple (the hatch exploded) time started working differently between the island and the real world. Likely it slowed down in a relative way, meaning the human race has probably self destructed. This would explain why Ben couldn't go there to get help on his spinal tumor. Or perhaps the time warp itself is enough to make travel impossible. BONE TO PICK: even so, Jack and Kate and Sawyer were already being "hooded" and taken to the Others' side of the island when the hatch exploded. Thus, Ben had made the request for Jack before they knew that the time had gone all wonky. Gaffe.
- Juliet & Jack are doctors named Burke and Sheppard. Just like on Grey's Anatomy!
- I liked the shot of Juliet and the Portland guy talking while their faces have the X-ray image on it - how artsy! But why is that guy wearing massive eyeliner?!
Concluding:
- Well I guess I'm suppose to like Juliet more now, but I totally don't. What a whore. That entirely inappropriate insult aside, I have come to accept her as part of the cast. She is, at the very least, interesting. But I still wouldn't buy any Jack-Juliet love. I just don't see it.
- Very, very excited for 15 more weeks of episodes like this! (hopefully!)
- 9.2/10

the alex thing is weird. if she grew up on the island you wouldn't think she'd know anything else but that life, so what's she all rebellious about? she must have either been mistreated somehow (like her bf!) or figured some things out on her own and not liked what everyone else was up to?
did the "sky turn purple" the first time desmond didn't push the button (when the plane crashed)? i guess probably not, though that's what i initially thought when he said that.
i feel like this whole "lost time" thing is a red herring. but maybe not.
desmond flashback next week!!
I saw your rating of the episode, and mentally replaced the decimal point with a zero - rendering it as: 90210
hahah, that totally made my day
Re: your conclusion of a "gaffe". You're inferring a whole lot of mumbo jumbo from "Because, ever since the sky turned purple, we--" about time operating differently and time warps and whatever else you've dreamed up (which is entertaining, but just conjecture at this point). For all we know, he was going to say, "Because, ever since the sky turned purple, we haven't been able to get our navigation systems to work. And besides, where would we take Benry that wouldn't result in a whole lot of questions being asked? He was born on an island that doesn't exist, as far as the rest of world knows, so how would we explain that? And think about it, Jack: why would we take him anywhere, risk any of that, when we have one of the world's best spinal surgeons right here on the island with us?" I'm not saying that's what he was going to say, but that we don't know what it was, so how exactly can it be a gaffe (yet)?
well, if you take the sky line in combination with the article I posted early with Cuse & Lindelof, the time shift conclusion is fairly straight-forward. I definitely agree with your ideas about other reasons that they couldn't take Ben to the mainland. I don't think the decision to get Jack in itself is a gaffe, just the line where one of the Others was explaining the decision not to. If he had said some of your reasons, that would totally make sense. But he said it was because of the sky thing, and Jack was already over on Other-land at this time - which is the gaffe.
No, once again: he started to say something, about the purple sky, and was cut off by Jack nicking an artery. Assuming that you know what someone is going to say by the first few words of an incomplete sentence is just wrong. For example, you typed "I was quite sure Alex was a set-up. Turns out, not so much." What if you only got to type the first 8 words before being cut off. Should I tend put forth, "What the Hell are you talking about? Clearly that episode showed she wasn't! What a gaffe! You're so stupid!!" if it was clear you were cut off?
Also, quoting things you've read outside of the show is dicey. I know there's a lot of info out there, about everything these days, but for something like Lost, I try to limit my own conjecturing and enjoyment - as much as possible - to just the show and any official spin-offs. Until I see it in the show, I'm not taking anything as gospel, personally. The writers could just be messing with your head, for all we know.
But it was in combination with the question asked before, something along the lines of "why didn't Ben just go to the mainland for his surgery?"
No matter what the response was, it indicated that ever since the sky went purple that it wasn't going to be possible.
Again, the sky turned purple when the hatch exploded - Jack, Kate, and Sawyer were already being hooded / taken to the dock at this time.
And yep, the writers could certainly be messing with our heads, only time will tell. But it doesn't change the gaffe of that line.
i have no idea what you're talking about with this gaffe thing
It's just Tammy being All-Knowing, Luke. Nothing to worry about.
So many mysteries so little time.
