Geeky Question: DVD Player Audio

So recently I discovered that my DVD player doesn't like to play the dialogue track on movies (but the background music and sound effects play just fine). I'm sure it's some button I've mistakenly pressed, but after trying every single button on my remote in hopes of fixing it - nothing is working!! Boo. Any ideas?

UPDATE: Problem solved by Matt! (I had to hook up ALL my speakers, not just a select few).

Mmm... multi-channel...

So here's a little bit of (hopefully) helpful info. There are all the "n.1" stereo setups - 2.1, 5.1, 7.1 etc. The first, 2.1, is a left & right channel with a subwoofer. That means all the sounds are split between the two evenly for the "center channel", which is where the voice tracks usually end up. In 5.1 and higher, there is a dedicated speaker for the center channel.

Personally I've found that some movies have vastly different levels for the center channel and the others - to the point where the speech is too low and the sound effects are deafening. I suspect that is because I don't have an independent amp and maybe it isn't playing in the sound scheme the movie was originally done in.

Glad it's working.

Some to know, Chris! One of these days Vicki and I will have to break down and buy a separate sound system for our 'entertainment unit' (basically just a big screen TV and a bunch of players - PVR, DVD, VHS, PS/3). Several of my friends, including Tim I believe, were convinced many years ago that it wouldn't be long before we had a surround sound system in place in our house, but to date we've proved them all wrong!

"Some good stuff to know" is of course what I meant to type in that last comment.

Argh.
